"Proving that girls can do the John Butler Trio thang as well - if not better - than the boys themselves, local lass Dallas Frasca puts a fresh spin on the slidenstomp box template"

Alternate Roots powerhouse, Dallas Frasca, didnt start singing until she was 19 years old. Ten years on, Frascas mighty soul-voice resonates through venues, stereos, and radio stations across Australia.

Frasca has sung in an array of bands from metal to funk. Her passion and the natural gutsy tone in her voice always lead her back to roots music. Frasca became an original member of Blues-rock band Trevors House.

The first time I ever sang in front of people I lost my voice for a week. When it came back it had that raspy bottom end to it, that just never went away, Frasca recalls.

That raspy bottom end vocal, unified with groove-based slide-dobro and pounding stomp box produces Frascas trademark sound. Influenced by Delta Blues legends Robert Johnson, and Mississippi Fred McDowell, Dallas Frascas slide-guitar sound is majestic.

Frasca explains how she got into guitar:
Fourteen months ago I got throat nodules. After some inspiring words from a good friend, I picked up a guitar, tuned it to D and bought myself a slide. I spent the year teaching myself to play slide guitar and listening to Gladys Knight, Etta James and Aretha Franklin

Just one year of cultivating her Slide guitar and vocals, spawned an artist and performer of the highest calibre. Frasca was the winner of JJJ's 'Light Your Fuse' competition in March 2006, she was nominated as a finalist for APRAs prestigious Professional Development Award, 2006, supported Xavier Rudd on his recent national tour, was shortlisted for the John Butler (JB Seed) grant and two of her songs hit number 1 on MP3.com.

In August 2004 her song Blessin' In Disguise was released on Triple Js Roots n All program Blues, Roots & Beyond compilation album alongside artists such as Joss Stone, J.B. Trio, Johnny Cash and more, selling almost 10,000 copies to date. She also received airplay on the Home n Hosed program on JJJ with her original tune, The Rose. Theyve labelled her as one of the best blues singers in Australia at the moment.

Stocked with a bunch of new material, her distinctive gutsy vocal style and finger pickin/slide guitar grooves produce a tough, bluesy, organic and raw backyard sound'.

Dallas Frasca has now released her debut solo EP: Acoustic Slide Groove. The EP was Single of the Week in Inpress, Melbourne, and has received airplay Australia-wide. Frasca is also featured on Triple Js Blues Roots and Beyond compilation CD.

Dallas was a hit with Australian Blues Music Festival audiences in 2003 with Trevor's House. She was the life of the party again impressing audiences no end at the 10th annual Australian Blues Music Festival in 2006. Dallas will be returning to perform at the 2010 Festival with her band including Jeff Curran (ex Red Hot Poker Dots & Uncle Bob's Jug Band) on dobro & mandolin.
