Pugsley Buzzard Wateringcan (NSW)
Piano player and gravel voiced singer, Pugsley Buzzard's performances draw from a rich vein of piano based music from Harlem Stride, New Orleans Funk, Swampshack Jazz, Barrelhouse Blues to Modern Improvisations.
Pugsley's sound has been compared to Fats Waller, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart and Professor Longhair. He's an engaging performer. His shows are exciting and entertaining and delivered with a vaudevillian nuance and humour. Pugsley can be relied upon for a stylish, unique, eccentric and humours humdinger of a blues hootenanny that will empty a whole lotta glasses and shake a whole lotta asses.
Pugsley was invited to be an ambassador for the Daniel Pearl World Music Days in 2008 and he dedicated his three October Festivals (including the Himalayan Blues Festival in Nepal) to promoting unity, tolerance and cross cultural understanding through music. It was a great honour for Pugsley to be asked to participate. The Foundation's Honorary Patron is former US President Bill Clinton and committee members include Sir Elton John, Herbie Hancock, Ravi Shankar and Barbra Streisand.
"The major attraction of the event were clearly the Pugsley Buzzard duo who enthralled the audience with the crowd standing up and dancing to their songs which were grovvy and funk. Besides having the lively persona, the keyboardist was blessed with such husky and strong voice that each song drew a resounding applause from the crowd." - The Kathmandu Post (Oct. 08)
